New Year, New Smiles: Setting Dental Resolutions for 2024

It’s another new year, and another new opportunity to make exciting resolutions for your oral health in 2024. While research shows that many Americans make New Year’s resolutions each year, by the first week, 23% of people quit, only 36% of people make it past the first week, and sadly, just 9% actually keep their resolutions the whole year. Unfortunately, many people learn to live with the inconveniences of dental issues they don’t see as urgent because getting help can seem unattainable. Simply Smiles Miami hopes to show our community that your health goals are attainable!

Our practice offers a multitude of services ranging from functional and preventative, to cosmetic. We also serve the whole family. We are here to help you get the smile of your dreams, and to ensure that your family’s oral health thrives. Here are our top suggestions for making a new year’s commitment to prioritize your smile in 2024:

  • Level up your oral routine and refresh your habits.

As months pass, we tend to let some habits slip and we don’t commit to them as much as we did at the start of the year. Now is the time to refresh some of your oral care habits that you may be slacking on. Brush for two minutes twice a day, use a toothpaste with fluoride, and really commit to flossing at least once a day. Maybe you’ve only been brushing once a day, and not flossing at all. Now is your time to level up and commit to better health for your smile!

  • Make healthier choices in your diet.

If you’ve also made a goal to lose weight or watch your diet in 2024, this resolution can also benefit your oral health. Cutting back on sugary foods, starches, and sodas is not only good for your overall health, but your teeth as well. Try to incorporate lots of fruits and raw veggies in your diet as these can help scrape plaque off your teeth, help freshen your breath, and reduce the amount of sugar on your teeth that can lead to plaque and decay.

  • Limit alcohol consumption and quit tobacco products.

According to the Academy of General Dentistry, people who smoke and frequently consume 4 or more alcoholic beverages in one sitting also have increased gum recession, and they tend to neglect brushing their teeth or take an interest in their basic health compared to nonsmokers. Tobacco use can stain your teeth and lead to a whole host of other dental issues. If you’ve been trying to give up tobacco products, dental health is another fantastic reason to dig deep and commit to that goal in 2024.

  • Establish a regular dental checkup routine with your dentist.

Scheduling visits to your dentist for check-ups every six months is a fantastic way to safeguard your oral health. Regular visits will allow your dentist to catch any early signs of decay or any other dental issues before they become more severe, and this early detection can save you lots of money as well. Most dentists can also assist you with any cosmetic procedures you’ve been putting on hold; this could be the year that you take your confidence back!

Prioritizing the health of your mouth doesn’t have to be daunting and complicated. Our team at Simply Smiles is here to walk with you every step of the way and offer guidance when needed.
